There is a lot of talk about the potential of telehealth. Needless to say we have a long way to go before we achieve the lofty goals espoused by the Federal Government. Despite this gap between what could be and what is, I am excited to hear about the GE Healthcare key player in India’s remote telemedicine project (http://goo.gl/xQKnf). The combination of private initiative and corporate social responsibility demonstrate what is possible todays technology. By the way I know this type of practical application will provide GE Healthcare a credible and relevant platform to sell from but there is no such thing as a free lunch.
As we Tasmanian’s try to find new ways to compete in the world economy perhaps we can entice a GE Healthcare to provide similar support especially as the University of Tasmania rolls out the Sense T project (http://goo.gl/nQ38S). There are a few local projects under way and I wish them all the best. I look forward to monitoring their progress but until then watch this space….
